Yorkton Times - January 5th, 2008
A frustrating and inconsistent season has Yorkton Centurions coach and GM Reg Dunlop scratching his head. We caught up to Dunlop at the teams Agriplex practice facility :
YT - Coach Dunlop, why have the Centurions been playing so inconsistent this season? The team started the season with 1 win in it's first 9 games, then went on an 8 game winning streak. The team has now lost 4 in a row and is 3-7 in your last 10 games
RD - Well, if I knew exactly what the problem was, it would be fixed by know. We have the talent in the lineup, no doubt about it, but we just can't fight the right fit or chemistry among the top 2 lines.
YT - Are your better players more accountable for the poor play of the team ?
RD - Every player is equally accountable, just some of our better players play a larger role. Those players with bigger roles, need to step up.
YT - Anyone in particular ?
RD - All of us need to improve, but I have to say I am dissapointed with Peter Forsberg and Simon Gagne. They have a combined 5 goals and are -16. Simply Unacceptable.
YT - Are the Centurions entertaining any trade possibilities ?
RD - I think we need to look at all options to make this club better. If it involves trading players like Selanne or Forsberg, then that's what we will do.
YT - What else must the Yorkton Centurions do to get back to winning consistently?
RD - We need our goaltenders and defense to play better. Lidstrom and Niedermayer are -4 and -3 respectively, and Francois Bouillon is -8. We don't have one single defenseman on the team that's played more than 6 games that has a +/- above zero. That has to improve.
YT - What team in the Wales Conference do you so as being your biggest competition?
RD - Well, traditionally, the Tampa Bay Sharks have given us fits over the years, but i think this year the Regina Royals are the team that has our number. We need to improve against Divisional rivals.
